Ways to make your self-care routine more magical

Is your daily self-care routine no longer serving you well? Do you feel like it’s missing something? Maybe it’s time to change your routine up a little and add a magical self-care routine that you’ll long for!

A self-care routine, whether it’s at the beginning or the end of your day is an important thing to incorporate to live your best life. I personally like to begin AND end my day with a self-care routine but I know that for some of you, that isn’t an option and that’s okay. Finding the time of day that works best for you is important - to make sure that you’ll stick to it. Remember, the simpler, the better. We want this to be an approachable daily practice!
If you don’t have a self-care routine at all, you may want to first read my post on creating a morning routine.

Here are some ways to add magic to your self-care routine:

A Magical Bath:
A morning bath helps me to wake up, center myself and feel refreshed. It's a great time to work new magic that requires your full attention- before the worries of the day get the best of you. Morning baths are favorable for milestones and big changes as well. For example, I always take a morning bath on my birthday. This allows me to step into a new year relaxed and focused with a particular intention like celebrating myself. Trying to find a new job? Try a morning bath where you do some vision writing about the position! When done, unstop the tub and allow all that hope and energy to leave your body and go down the drain, releasing your magical intention without attachment into the universe.
A nightly bath helps me cleanse and purify after a long day. As an empath who feels other people’s feelings, this practice allows me to get rid of any negative energy I’ve accumulated from the day. Here are some essential oils that I like to add: lavender (for relaxation), bergamot (for joy), ylang ylang (for embodiment and pleasure).

When drawing a bath make it as delicious as possible no matter what intention you’re working- this is great for everything from self-love to protection spells. I love to drink  a cup of tea in the bath. If tea isn’t your drink of choice, you can drink whatever it is that you enjoy. The point is to be able to sit and enjoy it completely and deriving pleasure from this self-care action.

On Mondays, I make my morning baths even more special by having breakfast in my tub. Here’s one of my favorite pancake recipes. Try adding in rose petals for a pinch of self-love, or lavender buds for a calm day into the recipe! Starting my day off by treating myself to a luxurious bath helps me to get into the right mindset so that I can be focused on running my business during the day.

5 minute alternative:

If you don’t have time to draw a bath, an essential oil shower steamer is a great alternative.

A shower steamer is a fun way to add aromatherapy to your shower. What is it? A little puck that will dissolve in the shower and release the scent from the essential oils. It's only three ingredients and easy to make. Here’s how:
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup distilled water
  • 15 to 25 drops essential oil
  • ice cube tray or other container to use as a mold

To make, mix the baking soda and water together and mix. One mixed evenly, you can add the essential oil drops. If you don't want to make a batch of all one scent, you can skip adding the e.o. and instead add them to the steamer right before use. To finish, scope the mixture into the molds and press the back of a spoon to compress & smooth the surface. Allow to dry overnight. Once dry, pop 'em out & they are ready for use. Store extras in an air tight, moisture-free container.

Journaling

After a refreshing bath, I like to get cozy in sacred space and write for 5-10 minutes. Sacred space is anywhere you feel good- don’t overthink it. It can be your freshly made bed, in front of your altar, or one of my favorites if I’m not being very nice to myself that day, is the mirror. I’ve been journaling and sketching in the mornings for many years and find it to be a good practice for self-care. When I focus on what I’m grateful for, it helps me start and end the day with a positive mindset.

Set an intention

I like to start my mornings by setting an intention for the day. An intention can be anything you want to focus on. Are you looking for a new job? Do you want to start something new? Do you want to have a positive day? Do you want to find one thing you love about yourself?

Some of the areas I like to focus my morning on are: self-love, messages I might get from my guides via journaling or pulling cards, and gratitude. Keep it simple, babes!

In the evenings, I like to set intentions as well. I focus on embodying pleasure, and celebrating achievements. I spend a few minutes with my calendar making sure i’ve scheduled 15-20 minutes just for myself the next day. This little bit of freedom helps me embody pleasure. Maybe I’ll go get ice cream, or sit quietly under a tree- either way it’s time reserved just for me. I also think about or write out what i’ve accomplished. This is a magical practice! We cultivate that positive energy, pause to enjoy it, and share it joyfully with ourselves and close friends to feel its full impact and integration.

Daily Positive Affirmations

Some of the biggest impacts require the least amount of energy and I would say that saying daily positive affirmations is one of those things. A positive affirmation is something you say to yourself to inspire, energize and motivate and impacts both your conscious and subconscious mind. Positive affirmations help to get rid of self-sabotaging, negative self-talk and thoughts. Doing them daily can be powerful in shifting your mindset.

Here are some positive affirmations. Pick ones that resonate with you and say them to yourself daily.

  1. I love who I am today no matter what others may think
  2. I am enough
  3. I am strong in mind, body and health
  4. I release myself of negative thoughts
  5. I am the only one that can determine my self-worth and I am worthy of my dreams
  6. I am walking in my purpose
  7. I have the power to accomplish everything I need to do today
  8. I have the power to change my story
  9. I will be a magnet for ideas today
  10. Today I will learn and grow
  11. I am a badass babe
  12. I am full of magic
  13. I take time to tend my magic

If you’re already overworked and overwhelmed, you can start by adding one or two things in your routine that energizes you and helps you to move forward. Continue to add to your routine when you want to and get rid of what’s not working for you. Focus on what really impacts you and fills your cup. When you continue to be consistent, it’ll naturally become a part of your routine that you won’t even have to think about it.

And that’s it! My self-care routines are very simple but impact me greatly. Taking the time to self-care is so important and making it a priority helps me to not only start and end the day on a positive note, but also sends a message to myself that I am important and that this matters to me.
