Magic for Abundance
Abundance, but make it sweet! Bread is a foundational, ancestral food for folks the world over. It's a symbolic unifier, and a traditional offering to guests and spirits alike. Due to its shape, warmth, and process of creation, bread baking is a powerful ritual of abundance and rebirthing. When we consider the grain, the land upon which it has grown, the time to process and grind, the soft nature of the flour it produces, we cannot help but feel a kind of reverence for this common food. It has nurtured countless people for countless generations, and is part of our biology. Our ancestors know bread, and therefore so do we. This spell invites you to bake your own bread as you see fit, as time and finances allow, and using a simple recipe with as few ingredients as possible. See a recommended recipe below! This is made to reflect on the simplicity of abundance - how it initially takes very little to create much. You may also purchase a simple loaf of bread at a grocery store or market. A small bun or baguette will do just fine!
INGREDIENTS:
-
Bread Flour
-
Instant Yeast
-
Salt
-
Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
-
Mix the dough ingredients together. Use a spatula at first, then switch to your hands to ensure all of the flour is moistened.
-
Cover dough and let rise at room temperature for about 2-3 hours until doubled in size.
-
Shape into 2 loaves or 1 boule. Rest as oven preheats. You can shape the bread into a round loaf or two longer loaves. Preheat the oven to 475°F. The hot air will immediately set the crust so the bread rises up instead of spreading all over.
-
Bake until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Gently tap the loaves. If they sound hollow, they’re done.
From here, we welcome a few common ingredients to create a sweet spread or dip, and to employ for ritual use. Getting a few tips from our Wiccan Kitchen book, we can create our own sweet mixture for our bread. Starting with honey or maple syrup, a foundation of sweetness is created. From here, we add nutmeg, cinnamon, with a small sprinkle of vanilla extract. Each one of these ingredients carries dynamic and age-old abundance magic: spice to ignite the fires of creation within, and fragrant fumes to breathe deeply into, making space in our lungs and minds for the abundance we are calling in. You may also choose to create your own blend based on what you find in your favorite kitchen witch reference book, from your own intuition, or any other magical recipe grimoire you prefer!
In a bowl, combine your sweet foundation of honey or maple syrup with your spices and vanilla. Stir and stir and stir in a clockwise direction. As your spoon repeats its cycles, feel your roots firmly planting themselves below your feet into the earth. Envision the growth of the grains which are here before you in your loaf of bread. See the nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla as the plants they are. Picture them growing wild, growing into dense abundant groves. Draw that energy up through your roots, into your heart, and up through your crown.
Once you have thoroughly mixed your ingredients, cut a healthy slice from your loaf, and either dip or spread on your magical mixture. We suggest you also create a smaller plate to give to your ancestors, offering them some of your creation to honor their presence and energy in your life. As you consume this bread, pay gratitude to your honorable ancestors who made it possible for you to be in this moment. Reflect this same gratitude towards yourself, envisioning your own abundance of being coming to fruition with every bite. Enjoy this ritual as often as you wish! Enact it with heart and mind. This ritual is one to perform in a peaceful, joyful setting. Play music if you like; celebrate your presence and become full with gracious abundance of existence.
