The New Abundance: a guest blog by J. Allen Cross

I don’t want much in this life. I want a yard where my dog can run and play. I want a home that’s not owned by someone else. I want to be surrounded by family and friends that aren’t all struggling to barely get by. More than anything, I just want everything to be okay. Yet every day in the United States that simple dream of just being okay seems to get further and further out of reach for everyday people. 

Let’s face it, we are living under late-stage capitalism. Most things in our lives come down to money. It’s what rules just about everything we do, and every decision we make whether we are ready to admit it or not. Within that though, is a growing hunger for life beyond the grasp of cold hard cash. A yearning for a life where we can get things like doctors’ appointments and access to community aid without having to stand on our heads and jump through flaming hoops. When we ask ourselves “What is it that we want? What does abundance look like?” I find more and more people are answering that an abundant life for them looks like a very simple existence with all their needs met. Rarely does anyone answer with “to be a billionaire”, and instead say they want a home and to be surrounded by found family and for everyone to just be okay. So why don’t we use a little magic to help ourselves reach for that?

For this spell oil, you’ll need a few things…

• Orange and/or Lemongrass essential oil
• Rose petals
• Allspice berries
• Pyrite pieces
• A carrier oil such as sunflower oil or almond oil

Make sure that all your plant material is dried, and that there is no moisture in whatever container you’re planning on keeping this oil in. Near a window, when the waxing moon is high, combine these ingredients into a vessel of your choosing, and ask that the spirits of these plants and stones help to open the roads and draw in what abundance looks like to you. Maybe it’s a raise or more money. Maybe it’s friends that really understand you. Maybe it’s a lover who will give you the love you’ve always longed for. Maybe it’s a home with sturdy walls and a little garden. Maybe it’s all of those things. Let these ingredients steep in their container until the moon begins to wax again. Use it to anoint orange, green, yellow, and purple candles as the moon grows, to draw in all the things your heart desires an abundance of.
