07-16-2022 - Body as Sanctuary: Ritual for Trauma Repair
The essence of trauma is a rupture in the relationship with the self: with our bodies, our feelings, and our needs. This rupture compromises our capacity for connection not just with ourselves, but also with our world, our communities, and each other. In order to restore our capacity for connection with that which matters to us the most, we need to engage in trauma repair practices that help us reconnect with our bodies in the present moment.
Ritual can be a powerful modality for trauma repair. By bringing together the principles of intention, pleasure, and repetition, as well as artfully integrating the four elements and the five senses, ritual helps us reconnect with our bodies, with nature, with Spirit, and with each other. By allowing us to experience our true nature, and giving us a taste in the moment of who we would be if we were untouched by trauma, ritual helps us envision and embody bold new possibilities for a just and liberated future.
In this 2-hour workshop, we’ll explore:
- How trauma disconnects us from our true nature.
- The ways in which ritual is already creating change in your life.
- How to create rituals that are designed for trauma repair.
- How to build a nourishing and sustainable ongoing relationship with ritual.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I will share the weird and wacky rituals that have sustained me, and how my relationship with them has evolved through time. The workshop will also include a brief lecture, personal reflection, a tarot ritual, group sharing, and time for integration & questions.
In preparation for the workshop, please gather the following items:
- Pen & paper or a journal.
- Items to create a simple sacred space, such as candles, herbs or incense to burn, etc.
- Your favorite tarot deck.
- A cherished or ritual object, such as a crystal, talisman, stuffed animal, etc.
- Snacks & drinks for nourishment.
This is a live workshop, with a recording available for 1 week sent out to all registered participants.
